Megan Reitenour, participated in her first NASCAR Whelen All American late model series event at Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, OH, on Friday, September 14, 2007. Joe Schmalling, owner of Start to Finish Racing Productions, negotiated a deal to give Megan the opportunity to participate in this event. He felt it was crucial for her development by getting her more experience in a heavier race car. This will help to prepare her for the next level in her racing career. Car owners Tony and Wendy Brunke of Casstown, Ohio, graciously agreed by letting Megan drive their late model race car.
Megan jumped behind the wheel of a Chevy Monte Carlo for the season ending race at Kil-Kare. These cars are 406 CI V-8 with 560 hp, capable of speeds of 100 mph on a 3/8 mile track such as Kil-Kare.
Megan was provided with a four hour practice session before the big event on Friday at Kil-Kare. Megan was coached by racer and car owner Tony Brunke, who gave her valuable instruction and advice. Megan said, "Tony and his race team helped me immensely in learning the fundamental differences between the late model and the other vehicles I've raced at Kil-Kare. They worked tirelessly to provide me with a very competitive race car and I cant thank them enough for the opportunity and their efforts."
Megan started in the thirteenth spot of the fifteen car field for the thirty lap event. She consistently made her way through the field to an eighth place finish as the checked flag flew.
Megan said, "This was a wonderful opportunity for me, which would not have been possible without my sponsor's help. Mike and Lori Salyers, owners of Acorn Financial provided the funding to make this race possible for me. They have been sponsors of mine for several years and make every effort to attend my races. I'm lucky and proud to have them as sponsors."
